Rolehound

Choosing an AI provider

Rolehound can send its AI work to Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini. You pick which on the Billing page, in the Bring your own API key card, from the box beside the key field.

The thing people get wrong

The provider setting only applies while you have supplied your own key. It is a description of the key you pasted, not a preference Rolehound follows in general.

Work that is metered against your credit always goes to Anthropic. That is not a setting anyone can change — it is how the code is built. Metered calls are costed against Anthropic's pricing, so the path that bills you is the path that only ever calls Anthropic, and a request on that path is refused outright rather than sent anywhere else.

So choosing OpenAI or Google Gemini without also saving a key for them changes nothing at all. In fact the stored provider is ignored entirely whenever no key is set, precisely so a value left behind by an old key can never misdirect a metered call.

Picking one

Choose the provider you already have an account and a key with. All three do the same four jobs here — reading a CV or a job page, scoring a role, classifying an email, drafting your documents — and the product behaves the same whichever answers.

The key must match the provider selected in the box. An OpenAI key saved as Anthropic will not validate, and the page tells you so rather than storing it.

Which model

You do not choose that. Each of the four jobs is pointed at a model by whoever runs this instance, per provider, so a key is all you supply. That is deliberate: it keeps a role like scoring pointed at something suited to scoring rather than leaving it to be set per account.

Changing your mind

Press Clear on the key card, then save a key for the other provider. Clearing resets the stored provider along with the key, so there is no half-changed state where one says one thing and the other says another. While no key is set at all, everything runs metered on Anthropic as above — see using your own API key.
