About Rolehound

What does Rolehound actually do?

It finds roles, filters them against your criteria, scores them against your CV, and drafts a tailored CV and cover letter for the ones you pick — then keeps your pipeline current as replies arrive. You get a sorted shortlist with reasoning attached instead of a job board, and two PDFs instead of a blank page. The how it works page walks through every stage in order.

Will it apply to jobs on my behalf?

No. Rolehound drafts; you send. It writes the CV and the cover letter and hands them to you as PDFs, and the decision to apply — and the act of applying — stays with you. There is no code in Rolehound that submits an application to an employer.

Where do the jobs come from?

Four places. Keyword searches built from your search titles run against a job-board aggregator covering UK vacancies. Job-alert emails arriving in your connected mailbox are read for the roles inside them. Job URLs you paste in are fetched and read. And employers you follow on the company watchlist have their own careers boards checked — Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, Workday and BambooHR. The features page covers each source.

Do I have to connect a mailbox?

No. Everything else works without one: searching, filtering, scoring, drafting and the pipeline board. What you lose is the two things that need mail — roles harvested out of job-alert emails, and replies moving your cards on their own. Connect one later and both start working; disconnect it and they stop.

Can I use my own AI provider key?

Yes. Add an Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini key on the Billing page and pick the matching provider. Every call then runs on your key — extraction, scoring, classification and drafting alike — and Rolehound meters and charges for none of it; your provider bills you directly. Clear the key and calls go back to being metered against your credit.

Billing

Do I need a card to start the trial?

No. Registering asks for an email address and a password, plus an optional referral code. No payment card is wanted at sign-up, the trial starts with the account, and you are only asked for card details at the point you choose to subscribe or buy credit.

What am I paying for?

Two separate things. A subscription covers the platform: the searches that keep running between your visits, the job URLs you add by hand, the connected mailbox and the reply tracking built on it, and the company watchlist. The AI work those things feed — reading, scoring, classifying, drafting — draws down prepaid credit instead, charged on what each call actually uses rather than a flat per-job fee. The pricing page has the current figures.

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes. The Billing page in your account has a Manage button that opens the billing portal, and the subscription is changed or cancelled from there. Cancelling does not close your account or remove your data — your jobs, applications, documents and history all stay — and any credit you have already bought stays on your balance.

What happens if my credit runs out?

The AI work pauses. Nothing is deleted, nothing is cancelled and nothing is lost — scoring, drafting and the rest simply wait, and whatever was waiting is picked up as soon as there is credit to pay for it. Top up, or add a provider key of your own, and it carries on from where it stopped. Nothing expires unused credit.

Privacy and security

Can other users see my data?

No. Every record carries the id of the account that owns it, and every query is filtered by that id in the database layer rather than by a check written into each screen. That filter fails closed: with no signed-in account resolved behind a query, it matches no rows at all rather than all of them.

Can Rolehound send email as me, or delete anything?

Neither. The interface Rolehound uses to talk to your mailbox has no send method and no delete or trash operation, so there is no code that could take either action. It reads, and it files messages it has classified into Rolehound folders in your own mailbox. Where it cannot use a server-side move it copies the message first and only expunges the original once that copy is confirmed, so a failed copy leaves the message exactly where it was.

What does Rolehound keep about my email?

For each message: the sender, the subject, a short preview, when it arrived and what Rolehound decided it meant. Not the body. Note that it classifies every message arriving in the connected inbox, not only the ones about a job, so personal mail gets a row too, marked irrelevant — which is why a mailbox used only for your job search is the better one to connect. The security page sets all of this out in full.

How do I get my data deleted?

By asking. There is no delete-my-account button in Rolehound today, so send the request through the contact page, saying you want your account and its data removed, and a person deals with it by hand. In the meantime you can clear the most sensitive parts yourself: disconnecting your mailbox on the Mailbox tab removes the stored connection and its encrypted secret, and clearing your provider key on the Billing page removes that.

Where to read more

Each of those answers has a fuller page behind it: what Rolehound does, how it works stage by stage, what it costs, and how your data is handled. The help centre covers using the product once you are in.
