Importing your CV

Your CV is the input every fit score and every tailored document is built from, so importing it is the first thing Rolehound asks for.

Where to do it

Go to Profile and its first section, CV. Choose Choose file and pick the file. The same card is step one of the setup wizard on a new account, so if you did it there, you have already done this.

What it accepts

PDF, DOCX or plain text. The file picker is limited to .pdf, .docx and .txt, and anything else is refused with Only .pdf, .docx, or .txt are supported. The file also has to be under 5 MB. A .doc from an old version of Word, a Pages file, or a photograph of a printed CV will not do — export to PDF first.

What happens next

The text is read out of the file and passed to the model, which returns a structured profile. It runs while you wait — the button reads Importing… until it is finished — rather than being queued for a background run, so this is one of the few things in Rolehound that happens on the spot. When it is done you get CV imported — edit the sections on the left. If it fails, the reason appears under the button and nothing is changed.

What it reads out

A headline and a summary. Your seniority and years of experience. Your target titles, skills and sectors. Your must-haves and dealbreakers. Your contact block — name, email, phone, location and links. Your work history, with each role's company, title, period, location and bullet points. Your education, your certifications, and anything left over.

Read what came back. Every one of those fields is visible on the profile sections, and an extraction that has gone wrong there goes on to affect every fit score and every document drafted for you. Correcting it now is far cheaper than noticing later.

It seeds your search titles once

If you have no search preferences yet, the target titles read out of your CV are copied across as your search titles, up to six of them, so that a first search has something to run on. That happens on that first import only. Once you have search preferences, importing another CV leaves your search titles exactly as you set them, and you change them on the Search tab.

Importing again

Uploading another file replaces your profile with one built from the new file. The full text of the CV is kept as well, which is what makes re-extracting possible later without another upload.
