Generating a tailored CV and cover letter
Nothing is drafted until you ask for it. On the Suggestions tab, a role you have not prepared yet shows Prepare application. Press it and Rolehound starts work on a CV and a cover letter written for that particular role.
The Jobs page can start one too, but only on a job that was flagged by the gates or scored too low to suggest: open its Not suitable panel and the control there reads Process anyway — generate CV & cover letter. It does the same work.
What it does
It researches the employer, rewrites your CV around this job, writes a cover letter to match, and renders both as PDFs attached to the application.
The rewrite works from your profile and the stored text of your CV, with the profile winning wherever the two disagree — so correcting your profile is the way to change what comes out. The company research feeds the cover letter only; it is not allowed to alter a fact on the CV.
It runs in the background
Drafting uses the strongest model available and routinely takes longer than a web request reasonably should, so the button returns straight away and the work carries on without you. The card reads Preparing… until the documents are ready, and you can close the tab.
A draft that fails is retried. If it keeps failing you are told: Prepare failed, with the reason. On Suggestions and Jobs a Retry sits beside that message; the pipeline card states the failure but carries no retry button, so ask again from one of those two.
If your credit has run out, or the provider is rate limiting, the card says Waiting with that reason instead. That is a condition, not a failure — the application stays queued and completes by itself once the condition clears.
It costs credit
Drafting is the most expensive thing Rolehound does on your behalf, because it is the one that runs the strongest model. On Rolehound's own key it is metered against your credit balance. Connect your own provider key on the Billing page and drafting runs on that instead, metered by your provider rather than by us.
That is also why preparing every role you see is a poor idea. Read the score, the summary, the strengths and the concerns first, and prepare the ones you actually intend to send.
Read it before you send it
The draft is written from your own CV and told to invent nothing, but it is still a model's work and you are the one signing it. Read both PDFs end to end. Check the dates, the employers, the figures, and the name of the company in the letter.
Rolehound never submits an application. It hands you two PDFs. Sending them, and everything that follows, stays with you.
